The 2023 Vegas Shoot’s record setting attendance means more archers than ever will have a chance to win cash, glory, and a place in archery history. Past winners have included household names and breakout stars.
If you’re following the tournament this weekend, here are some names you should know, but always be on the lookout for the underdogs who are looking to steal the show.
Championship Open Compound
Bodie Turner
Turner is a force in the compound division at just 15-years-old. He won the Vegas Shoot in 2022, and is coming off a perfect 660 and a win at the Lancaster Archery Classic.
Kris Schaff
Schaff has a new sponsor, recently won Nimes, and finished second at the Lancaster Archery Classic after an intense match with Turner. Last year Schaff missed the shootoff with an 899, and he’ll be looking for redemption at the 2023 Vegas Shoot.
Championship Compound Female
Liko Areola
Areola won the 2022 Vegas Shoot for the second time in a row. She’s shooting great this indoor season with a podium finish last week at the Classic.
Paige Pearce
Pearce is one of three archers in the championship compound female division to shoot a 900 last year, and she’s fresh off a win at the Lancaster Archery Classic.
Championship Recurve Male
Brady Ellison
Ellison is a favorite at any tournament, but especially Vegas. He’s the only recurve archer to shoot a perfect score at the tournament. He’s fresh off a win at the LAS Classic, and a top three qualifying score at Nimes.
Championship Recurve Female
Casey Kaufhold
She's one of the best recurve archers and is ranked 5th in the World Archery rankings. She’s an instant favorite because she won the 2022 Vegas Shoot and won the 2023 LAS Classic last week.
Championship Barebow Recurve
The barebow recurve championship division is stacked with great archers, but there’s one name among the bunch that stands out, John Demmer III. He’s a past Vegas champion and finished second at the 2023 Lancaster Classic.
Young Adult Championship Recurve
Andrew Choi is coming off a podium finish at the Classic, which should give him good momentum going into the Vegas Shoot.
Young Adult Championship Compound
Dewey Hathaway was last year’s champ and he’s shooting well again this year with a top eight finish at the LAS Classic. But, last year’s fourth place finish Nathan Zimmerman is also one to watch as he comes off a win at the LAS Classic.
Championship Compound Senior
Keith Trail is always one to watch the Vegas Shoot because he’s a multiple-time champion with his most recent win in 2021.
Championship Compound Senior Female
Lori Burnett finished first in the 2023 LAS Classic ranking round, and is one to watch going into the Vegas Shoot.
